Short-Term Disability (STD)
Short-term disability insurance provides income replacement of up to 60% for employees who are unable to work by reason of illness or disability. The benefits begin after an employee has used up accumulated sick leave and may extend until long-term disability benefits or Social Security disability benefits begin, usually 60 to 90 days. Some employers provide STD insurance as part of their group benefits plan but most make the coverage available to employees on a voluntary basis. These carriers provide or administer STD benefits:
