Rockwood Programs
Rockwood Programs began operations in 1996 as a wholly owned subsidiary of a large domestic reinsurance brokerage firm. The management team completed a buyout of the company four years later. The company functions as a full-service managing general agency, fully licensed in 50 states. It has the capacity and legal status to handle property and casualty, life, and accident and health products on both an admitted and surplus lines basis.

Rockwood was one of the founding members of the Target Markets Program Administrators Association. The company's president, Glenn Clark, first conceived the idea of an association dedicated to the needs of program specialists over seven years ago. "We recognized the value of an association dedicated to the issues of program administrators," says Clark. "We are justifiably proud of Rockwood's contribution to the success of the organization."

Rockwood currently serves as the administrator for several nationwide programs. Its flagship product is employment practices liability insurance (EPLI). This program is underwritten through member companies of Gulf Insurance Group. Entities with between six and 1,000 employees are eligible for the program. Alternative markets are used to place specialized or difficult risks.

"Rockwood enjoys a reputation for being a premier provider of EPLI coverage in the industry," says Darryl McCallin, vice president. "We are able to maintain our unique position in the marketplace by pioneering various workflow innovations to help agents sell the coverage." Some of these innovations are a Web site featuring an online quoting mechanism, a short-form application and Internet-enabled risk management reference materials.

Clark describes another EPLI-related initiative administered by Rockwood. "The 'Write Your Own EPLI' program gives insurance carriers the ability to differentiate a traditional GL, BOP or E&O form by embedding a sub-limit of EPLI protection as an endorsement," says Clark. "Participating carriers have the option of sharing in the results at a level consistent with their own unique risk appetites." Reinsurance is available through both Lloyd's of London and domestic markets.

Rockwood also offers nationwide errors and omissions programs specifically tailored to insurance agents. "This coverage has been a part of Rockwood's product portfolio since 1998," McCallin says. "Our core target audience is smaller retail agents primarily involved in the placement of standard risks." The life/accident and health agents program is underwritten by Avemco Insurance Company; coverage for property and casualty agents is provided through Lloyd's of London. One-off placement of insurance agent risks that do not fit either program is available through Rockwood's brokerage operation. Rockwood offers online risk management tools exclusively for its policyholders. These tools are tailored to address some of the most significant risk exposures faced by insurance professionals.

Another Rockwood program is designed to provide professional liability insurance for podiatric physicians. Member companies of American International Group underwrite the coverage. "We have operated as the administrator for this program since August 2002," McCallin says. "Since that time we have seen several key players exit the marketplace. Rockwood is fortunate to have partnered with a committed carrier like AIG so that we can continue to offer this valuable coverage." Rockwood offers a competitive policy form as well as a wide array of liability limit and retention options.
