Aussicker continues: "When we become involved in a program, we make certain we understand the client's book of business. We have to make sure that we protect the client's reputation throughout the entire claims process. After all, when a claim occurs, it is often the result of a negative situation. There are few hard and fast rules when it comes to resolving claims. There is a range when determining the value of a claim. We want to treat all parties in an equitable fashion, while still protecting the loss ratio of the client. Therefore, we have to be involved in the entire claims process."

"We listen to MGAs to learn about the specifics of different programs," says Aussicker. "We become involved in various trade associations to understand the issues involved in their lines of business. Just recently, Tom spent an entire day speaking with and listening to a group of supermarket owners to get to know their sensitivities. Sometimes we hire people with specific areas of expertise. For example, we have hired people who are specialists in agribusiness. The point is, we are willing to adapt and capable of adapting."
