The power of one

The Rough Notes Company's Community Service Award honors individuals who make a difference

For the last 10 years, The Rough Notes Company has recognized insurance professionals who go beyond the call of duty to invest their time, effort and money to improve the lives of others who are less fortunate.

One of these agents helps feed thousands of children nationwide through a program he started. One raised money to build an emergency room at his local hospital. One spearheaded the opening of the first Boys and Girls Club in his hometown. Several led United Way campaigns which touch many needs in their communities. One started a therapeutic horseback-riding clinic for handicapped and disabled children and adults. One was inspired by a personal tragedy to raise awareness and funds for leukemia and lymphoma. One raises funds to help families unable to pay for cancer treatments. One helps build housing for poverty-stricken families in Nicaragua. One is leading the drive to provide housing for needy families.

The Rough Notes Company needs your help in identifying other insurance professionals who are committing extraordinary acts of service for those in need. While most people who give so much and so freely do not relish public accolades, they are an inspiration to others. Because honoring the givers is a way to perpetuate the giving, we ask that you, our loyal readers, help us recognize deserving and qualified independent insurance professionals for the Community Service Award.

Do you know an independent insurance agent or agency that has performed extraordinary service within their local community or around the world? Whether you represent an agent or an agency, a state or national insurance trade association, an insurance company, or a charity or other community service organization, you are eligible to nominate that person or firm for the 2009 Rough Notes Community Service Award. Simply complete the Nomination Form on the following page along with the supporting documentation, and submit it on or before December 31, 2008.

The winning charity or community service project will receive $5,000 in the name of the winning agent or agency. The honorable mention recipients’ charities or community service projects will receive $1,500 in the winning agent or agency’s name. In addition, the winners will receive an eagle statue with an engraved plaque recognizing their contributions to the community.
