Alliant Specialty Insurance Services, Inc.

Key programs administered: healthcare, law firms, public entities, tribal nations, and environment/pollution

Alliant Specialty Insurance Services, Inc. (ASIS), delivers superior products and services to a broad base of middle market clients through an extensive network of regional operations and broker partners. An emerging specialty program underwriter generating above average returns for carrier partners through a meticulously developed niche strategy, ASIS continues to grow as a national distribution company that insists on specialized expertise from its underwriters, program managers and appointed agencies.

Offering a special blend of program underwriting, actuarial, and distribution capabilities, ASIS delivers unique advantages in specialty insurance program distribution. Headquartered in San Diego, California, ASIS serves the specialized needs of several niches, including:

• Energy
• Environment/pollution
• Golf courses
• Healthcare
• Hospitality
• Law firms
• Parking companies
• Public entities
• Tribal nations
• Waste haulers/recycling

ASIS is a subsidiary of Alliant Insurance Services, Inc., a specialty insurance leader ranking among the 15 largest insurance brokerage firms nationwide. According to Alliant Insurance Services CEO Tom Corbett, “ASIS is emerging as one of the premier program administrators by continuing to provide advantaged, program-based risk solutions for the middle market.”

ASIS programs are primarily marketed by managing brokers with expertise in the particular type of business related to the program. ASIS provides support from senior executives, program development personnel, and Alliant Insurance Services’ retail operations.

Distribution is conducted through a unique co-broker perspective, meaning that the program’s managing broker offers only select agencies the ability to submit business to the program. The co-broker relationship operates exclusively with agencies that meet the service and quality standards of ASIS. That translates into better results for our carrier partners and an advantage in pricing for policyholders.

To increase client loyalty, the ASIS staff interacts with policyholders by regularly participating in product presentations and offering value-added services such as extensive risk management consultations, supplemental claims handling for third-party administration processed claims, and actuarially founded loss development recommendations for our self-insured retention clients.

Among ASIS’s several specialty programs are its Public Entity Property Insurance Program (PEPIP), the world’s largest property placement program; Tribal First, delivering property, casualty, workers compensation, and self-insurance solutions to tribal nations; and ProQuest, a program providing insurance and risk management solutions exclusively for law firms.

Following the passage of Proposition 103 in California, the PEPIP program began with 13 public entity buyers. “Since then, ASIS and its retail distributors provided an enhanced product at a reasonable price to enable PEPIP to attract more than 5,000 members nationwide,” says Ralph Hurst, president of Alliant’s Public Entity Group. PEPIP is a joint purchase group of insureds. Its members include cities, states, schools, universities, hospitals, and/or special districts. With the combination of a dedicated ASIS underwriting staff specializing in public entity property, and limiting distribution only to retail brokers who are public entities experts, PEPIP will continue to offer public entities the best program product available.

Specializing in professional liability exclusively for law firms, ProQuest products include lawyer’s professional liability, excess lawyer’s professional liability, employment practices liability, management practices and outside directorship liability, and miscellaneous E&O. Peter Vexter, executive vice president of ProQuest, says the program represents more than 600 firms, ranging from local and regional practices to those ranking in the world’s top 10. ProQuest maintains trading relationships with several major carriers of lawyer’s professional liability. Clear focus, broad scope, and recognized integrity make ProQuest a prime choice as partner for insurance placement and risk management services.

Its Tribal First programs position ASIS as the “recognized industry leader in providing coverage to sovereign tribal nations,” according to Sean McConlogue, ASIS president. “Tribal First delivers complete insurance solutions through its nationwide broker network. Tribal First’s mission is to increase the self-sufficiency of tribal governments or enterprises in all aspects of risk management. Deeply involved in the communities it serves, our Tribal First operation believes in ‘recognizing the past, while improving the future.’”

McConlogue enthusiastically endorses the Target Markets Program Administrators Association. “It is tremendously advantageous to have an association that’s so focused on what we do—program administration. All members, including carriers, start out on the same wavelength, which makes our conference and meeting time together highly productive.” *
