Costanza Insurance Agency

Key programs include: crime insurance, general liability, umbrella/excess liability, and workers compensation packages primarily for the security industry

For more than two decades now, Costanza Insurance Agency (CIA), headed by founder Peter Costanza and his son Brian Costanza, continues to provide insurance solutions for security related businesses throughout the United States. Among its clients are security guard firms, private investigators, and alarm companies. CIA’s programs include general liability, fidelity/crime insurance, workers compensation, and umbrella liability.

Secure Comp, which Peter Costanza describes as a competitive, guaranteed cost workers compensation program, is designed specifically for the security industry. Secure Comp is the fastest growing business unit of CIA. This wide-ranging program is available in most states.

General liability and workers compensation programs remain the backbone of the Costanza organization. But a new and exclusive umbrella/excess liability program has CIA especially excited about future growth. Brain Costanza, vice president of underwriting, explains:

“Premium growth in a soft market can be quite a challenge. This current market cycle is characterized by low rates, high limits, flexible contracts, and an increase in availability of coverage. Being able to write umbrella policies on top of existing business gives CIA and our brokers an opportunity to produce additional premium, enhance coverage, and help retain profitable accounts that otherwise might look to other markets and, in the process, perhaps move their primary coverage to a competitor. Our society’s litigious nature, coupled with precedent setting liability awards, is the key factor in an ever-increasing necessity for umbrella liability insurance. The threat is real. And the protection is needed now more than ever.”

Examining current conditions within the security industry, Peter Costanza points out that “security needs obviously accelerate as the rate of crime increases. It has become more evident to me that current economic and social challenges facing our society form the driving force behind the increasing need for independent security. In turn, we continue to see many new opportunities.”

As a result, Costanza Insurance Agency—with offices in Dallas, Texas; Glendale, California; and Russellville, Missouri—feels well positioned to meet the complex needs of its clients.

In discussing CIA’s relationship with the Target Markets Program Administrators Association, Peter Costanza cites the benefits his agency derives from its membership in the organization. “My involvement with Target Markets began in 2003,” he said. “I feel that it’s very important to dialogue with other niche market specialists. I want to stay in contact with program administrators and underwriters throughout the nation. Market conditions are soft, and I’m aware that carriers’ appetites for niche market business are rapidly increasing. At CIA we intend to expand into other program areas. Being a member of Target Markets is most assuredly advantageous.”
